Does the starter motor have a relay???

Hi,

Does anyone know if the W210 1996 (E320) has a starter relay for the starter motor and if so, location of this relay?

It is not the K40 Module/Relays (http://hem.bredband.net/dimtri/) I am inquiring about since they have no connections to the starter motor.

As far as I know every starter has a relay. On most cars this relay is connected to the starter. It is called a solenoid in this situation, but functions in the same way as a relay

I just spent more than a few weeks researching if a 1996 E320 has other relays other than the K40 which you aware. I have removed every pannel from the vehicle and I have not been able to find any.

As per your question regarding the starter relay, the Thread above mine is corret, the starter uses a solenoid which is built in inside the starter.

As a note, your K40 has one less relay than the one that I have, but that could be for an additional computer/ device in my car.

What is exactly your vehicle is doing? Does it crank but won't start? or does not crank at all? and if does not crank at all do you have lights on your instrument cluster and headlights?

Regards,

Norman

Hi,
My problem is actually described and discussed in another thread i.e.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=112468&page=1&pp=15

I turn the key - and nothing. Won’t even crank (all other electronics are ok).

1. New battery
2. Immobilizer is ok
3. Turning the gear shifter does not help
4. K40 relay looks fine and does not seem to have any connection to starter motor what so ever.
5 Head light do not faint during start attempt
6. Problem occurs occasionally
7. Car has only been driven for 60000 km (only during summer in effect new)

Dimmi,

I am attaching the wire schematic for a 1996 E320 starter with some troubleshooting guidelines. I hope this information will be helpfull.

Well I won't be able the files are to large but if you provide a n e-mail I will be happy to e-mail them to you, or I will need to reduce the size of the files so I can post them. Let me know your preference.
