W211 Muffler water leak

Hi all,

Buddy of mine has an '04 E320, chassis 211, with 11 K on the odo. Both mufflers have what appears to be water leaking, along the "seams" which eventually drips onto the garage floor. The resulting puddle on the right side is about the size of the palm of my hand. Left side is considerably less.

The car was run for for just a few miles today, say 5 or maybe less. Is this because the car has so much condensation in the mufflers and isn't burning off and is therefore leaking? Could that large an amount of condensation cause this? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Deezl

More than likely condensation is the problem. The exhausts on cars that are usually driven long enough to evaporate the condensation tend to last longer. Exhausts on cars that pretty much putz around town tend to rust out from the inside.

Autozen is correct. The muffler has a drain hole for that reason and it appears to be doing its job. I have a winter car (91 Grand Marquis) that sees lots of short trips. Just recently, the muffler has developed a good sized leak right where the drain hole should be.
