engine compartment ticking noise - brake related

hi all - on my 85 380se, i can start the car and hear a clicking sound coming from the passinger side of the engine, by the front of the valve cover. at first i thought it was the chain or valve train making noise but when i depress the brake pedal, the noise goes away. i can feel a mild pulsing at the brake pedal if i just contact it with my foot - the pulsing stops when the pedal starts to move. anyone know what this is telling me????

as a side note, two weeks ago i was running errands (run to the store, shut off car, go buy what i needed, start car, go to a different store, repeat 4 or 5 times) and on one of my trip segments, the abs was acting up. i would almost get to a full stop when the abs would kick in (at about 5mph +/-). i tried braking harder and softer, it did not seem to make a difference. once the car was turned off and then re-started, i have not had this problem again. i don't know if the two problems are related but i have a feeling they might be.

any insight would be greately appreciated :)
