Clicking sound from front suspension while braking

I've been getting a click/clank type of sound from my 300E front end or front brakes, not sure. To make it happen I would drive forward then brake. Now go in reverse and brake. This will make the sound. I applied the MB brake grease when installing the pads and greased sliding pins, but pins were kinda worn. Seems like the slider/pins could cause this noise a small amount of for/aft movement.? The rotors and bearings are new and properly adjusted as well.
Does this sound like it might be the control arm bushings?

I used to apply that red stop squeal stuff for back of brake pads but changed to the MB brake paste when I did brakes last. Anybody use any other product on back and sides of pads?

I am going to pull the calipers this weekend and put some more white lithium grease on the caliper mounting slider/pins. Maybe it will help.

Sounds like the control arm bushings could be the culprit. Check them to see if they are worn/cracked looking. Chances are with the age...they're getting tired.

Don't forget that ABS will engage at speeds less than 3 or 4 MPH and that will give you some clicking spring like sounds. Do you feel any pulsing in the brake pedal? if so that is what it is, if not then it may be what you suggested.

The bushings do look pretty bad. I am also getting a creaking sound when I enter a driveway with my wheels turned. Maybe both noises are from control arm bushings. I will pick up 2 new control arms soon and get them swapped out. Hopefully that'll do the trick!

If the bushings show signs of wear, they are probably done.

FYI - I bought a box of front control arm bushings (140-333-05-15 or 140-330-82-07). If these will work for you (or anyone else), I will sell for half of the best "new" price you can find.
