Replacing instrument panel cover- 81-91 S-Class

I am considering a few 80s S-Class sedans. One in particular has about 3 unsightly cracks on the dash board top, as well as other blemishes. I know that covers are available, but was wondering anyone has ever attemted to install a new panel? If so, was it is costly and/or timely task? How difficult to remove?

Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with telling you what the cost is of replacing the dash... BUT, I can tell you that while you have the dash off, you should definately replace the vacuum pods and maybe even the evaporator. You won't regret it. A day or two or three ago, someone had a post asking what should be done while the dash is apart... you might want to look for it for reference.
Good Luck!

Thanks for that advice.

Strange though, I would have thought more people would have changed their panels, considering they are so prone to cracking.....

Most people use dash covers, they seem to run about $100. Last I heard a new dash for a W126 runs about $700.
