C280 driver's side outside mirror

Bought new electric motor for d/s mirror but am having trouble with the installation. The motor mounts with 3 screws and the glass clips in on the bottom and the spring retaining clip holds the glass in place. The trouble is there is not enough room to clip the spring--can't hardly even see it. Is there another way to do this? It would seem a lot easier to separate the motor, mount the glass, and then snap the electric motor back into place. I don't believe the motor separates though. Any advice?

Thank you in advance,

You need to remove mirror housing first, fold mirror in towards door and with a flat blade screwdriver unclip retainer on housing (you may need a light to see). Then remove mirror housing, now remove mirror glass, three screws holding motor drive, disconnect and remove motor drive. Install in reverse order.
