88 300E leaking Tranny
I bought a 88 300E with 124 K miles on it. When I had it inspected before I bought it the tranny was not leaking. Now I get about a dime size drip when I park the car. Pulled the splash pan and cleaned the tranny area so I could see where it was coming from. Took it for a drive and put it up to look at it. It seems to be leaking where the tranny and engine meet and it is bright red. In looking at the torque converter, it is dry. In looking up into the area of the converter through the grate and towards the back of the car I can see some red up towards the shaft of the converter. I an assuming that it is probably the seals on the shaft. Where it is only a minor leak has anyone had any success with any Stop Leak for the transission and what brand did you use. At this point I haven't got anything to lose to try it. Any other suggestions of directions to go in are greatly appreciated.

moohampshire,
This is very common problem as transmissions age. I'd say it's the o-ring seal on the front pump. The only fix is r&r the tranmission. Generally, drive it until it gets unbearable and rebuild the transmission. Check the fluid regularly since it's leaking a bit. I Michael |
