Yes. There is a little plastic gear that usually breaks apart or gets stripped. You will need to remove the speedo, and send it to be rebuilt. (about $125)
(yeah, you're thinking how can a teensy little plastic gear cost so much. No idea, actually. The only comfort you can take, is that all of the gears will be replaced and the whole thing nicely lubed.) Hope this helps.. -Larry |
Or, you can go on E-BAy and look for a complete Instrument panel for a lot less. You can then either use it as is (if you dont mind the mileage difference) or you can reset the mileage (tricky, but can be done) to what yours was.

I have tried to remove the instrument panel and fix it according to various gurus. No luck.

North Hollywood Speedometer sells gears for about $5. They also can do some work with your speedo needle and gauges.

Or you can send it to Stevebfl here on the forum.
His shop fixes these. W124 speedo/odo repairs are not for the feint of heart-- special tools/equpment are required. We do a fair number of 126/107 speedos, 124's all go to Steve-- including the one from my 90 300CE. |
