what could have gone wrong after service
 

2000e430 4matic 91000miles

last weekend i did the following

replaced plugs with dealer bosch plat's.

replaced fuel filter

replaced oil=filter( noticed creamy stuff in the oil cap)

air filter was replaced 10000miles ago.

after doing this over the weekend, the car drove very nice, lots of power. smooth.

3 days later car feels sluggish and really need to give her little force to accelerate. cant hear any mis-fires. pls advise what could have gone wrong.

the brake pads are low, could this be slowing the car down

The brake pads being worn should not effect the power output of the engine unless they are dragging, ensure your car will roll down a small grade easily while in nuetral, that will tell you if there is any drag. Also what brand of filters did you use? If other than MB filters that can cause restriction and therfore reduce oil pressure and flow of fuel. If not MB filters replace with genuine MB ones. If so, then you may have a clog, also if you used spark plugs that are not recommended for that engine that could cause a fuss with your ignition. Make sure you got the plugs that MB reccommends. I noticed that you said there was creamy white stuff in your oil filter cap? If so check your coolant that it doesn't have oil in it. You got water in your oil somehow, some can build up due to condensation but usually not enough to create a residue, get your coolant tested to ensure no oil, check your oil frequently to ensure there isn't any anti-freeze getting into it. You could have a failed head gasket.

My bet is fuel filter, plugged, installed backwards, or??? Enough fuel to idle, not enough to make serious powr? Have a look again...

Creamy stuff in oil=water. In the winter, condensation in the oil can make it look like a milkshake until the oil gets hot enough, for long enough, to evaporate the water. Oil usually runs at 110-130C, plenty hot to boil the water out in time. You just have to run it long enough, and that's why short runs require oil to be changed more often.

So, it could just be condensation, or could be coolant leak. Run the car 30 minutes or more, then see if the cream is gone. If so, it's probably normal, but keep an eye on it and take it out more often! :D

Replacement of the fuel filter is possibly the problem! ON the 1998 & later cars the fuel filter is ALSO the fuel pressure regulator. IF the pressure releif valve in the new filter is 4-5 lbs of pressure less than the original than it will take the computer a while to richen-up the mixture. You might even get a check engine lamp for fuel trim problems, P0 170/173
