5 speed for sale '88 300E 109K miles

5 Speed Roll Call captured my interest. I have only seen 3 300E 5 speeds. One in ME and two in NC in the mid-ninties.

I test drove two of them and was smitten but both cars were shabby.

So I just went to Autotrader and pluged in 1988 300E and this is what I found.

We had a decent one in Phoenix a few months ago. The guy could not give it away. It was really a very nice car, about the same miles, well maintained, etc. The last time I saw it adverstised it was at $2,000 so it must have gone for less than that. I had one once but it's out of my system now. But they're about as rare as Red Sox World Series wins.

I wish I would have known about the one in Phoenix...I was looking for a decent one for a while. They were all in fair shape or people wanted $5k-$6k for them. I ended up with a 1973 280..it kind of fell in my lap for $1500. Much different than the 300E but the more I drive it, the more I love it...needs a lot of work.

Why do you think he had trouble selling it? The 5-speed?

What are you driving?

The gap between people wanting them and people trying to sell them is too big. The one I found in the SF Chronicle was there for a couple weeks before I found it. The Kelly Blue Book Lowers! the value when you input manual transmission.

Yup. That's why I'll most likely be advertising my car for sale on MB forums before I just put them up elsewhere, if/when I want to sell it.

Five Speeds Rock, but seriously the asking price is a wee bit high, and the options installed really are standard equiptment.

Price $4,995

Mileage 108,968
