380se high idle fixed!!

I posted earlier about the high idle (1500 rpm) in my 85 380se. After reading many posts on this forum I ordered a new idle control unit. Well, that wasn't my problem. Turns out it was the fuse on the OVP relay. I checked this fuse before based on advise from here, and it looked ok. So while waiting for the ICU to come in, I decided to just replace that fuse and much to my surprise the idle settled right down to about 600 rpm!! That stupid fuse still LOOKS good to me. Just like you guys said, just because it looks good doesn't mean it is good. Lesson learned for me. Thanks to everybody who posts on this forum!! Now, on to other things!!

where is this fuse located? I have a 84 380 se with the same problem and I think its the idle control box, but I would rather change the fuse first and try that. Thanks

I beleive its #11 in the fuse box.

In the fuse box on the engine side towards the back, cube with a 10 amp (red)
fuse on top, if it's an old one. new one has a little clear cap that opens.

KarlS,
Roy was correct in his response, silver relay in the fuse box with red fuse on top. You can't miss seeing the fuse once you remove the fuse box cover. It's the only blade type fuse in the box. However if that doesn't fix it I have my old idle control unit that you could try. It works fine, I bought a new one and now I've traded the car for a 300SD. If you want to try that let me know and we'll work something out.

Mercedes Benz 1985 380SE high idle ABS light on

Had this problem. Replaced the OVP fuse which did not fix the problem. Ordered an OVP unit from GEEK. It just arrived and is installed. The problem solved. Idle back to normal and ABS light off. Thanks for posting your experiences on this forum. Very helpful. This repair could have cost me over $600 and was solved for $85.
