New SL owner needs help
 

Hey guys I have been reading through the forum the past few days and have found some good information. I do have a couple problems that I cant seem to figure out. I am working on a 1991 500 SL.

Problem one, The ABS light comes on when the car is shut off it goes out when the car is started ?

Problem two, The REC fan will not shut down. It runs when the car is on and when the car is off... It runs until the battery is dead.

Problem three, the idle control valve is also staying on constantly. With the key on and off.


I bought this car at an insurance auction, there was a small fire under the hood. The fire started in the ASR harness. We replaced the harness and any other burnt connections.

Is there an OBDII connector on this car ?

Let me know where to start...

Problem 1
 

When you first put the key in and turn it, all of the lights will come on in the cluster. The ABS light will come on with all of the other lights located in the cluster. When you start it, the ABS light should turn off as well as the other lights in the cluster.
