Not a tech question per se, but: anyone have experience/know cost of having a vehicle transported. I'm trying to buy a vehicle on eBay and would need to get it from seller in Pittsburg, PA to me in Wilmington, NC. Got one internet quote of $625 which seems high-ish for 600mi (and it's a $3500 import PU), but I haven't done this before.

Cost me $900+ to ship 2 cars about 500 miles. The plan was to ship 1 car for $750, but when the driver showed up, he was cool enough to pick up the other car for an extra $125. I'm sure I could have gotten a better 1-car price if I had more time to call around; as it was, I only had about 2 days' notice and most carriers like at least a week.

Paid $500.00 to ship from Phoenix AZ to Memphis TN, I believe the company was DAS shipping. Car was loaded onto an uncovered transport truck. No damages or any nasty suprises on arrival other than the car's exterior was extremely dirty from alll of the road grime.

I recently used DAS(dependable autoshippers) and paid $750 to ship my car from Los Angeles to Columbus, Ohio. It arrived in 10 days... 12 days ahead of the estimated schedule. Can't say anything about about DAS.... good and fast!

just ran a quote.. using "1994 Nissan Pickup" as an example. To ship from terminal to terminal.. it will run just under $500. Door-to-door is $800. I would have the seller drive the car to the terminal.. and you can just go over to the terminal near wilmington to pick it up.

My parents had a 300SE shipped from Corral Gables, FL to Lex., KY for around $700. They winched the car down with the frame - not the tires. The result - the rear springs are now toast and have to be replaced. Be sure to ask how they secure the car to the trailer. Most good carriers will use straps to secure the tires to the trailer - not winch the frame down to the trailer. They are lucky only the springs were affected. Many times the frame winds up being bent. Oh, and the car sat in Morehead,KY on a trailer for over two weeks in a Walmart parking lot - UNLOCKED! By the time someone came to get the trailer and take the cars to their destination the CD changer in the trunk had been taken along with the car's battery. Have no idea what was taken from all of the other cars.

What company did your parents use? Sounds like a good one to avoid.

I am thinking it was AAA Shipping or something like that. I can ask Mom and Dad - it may be a few days though. They are not as spry as they used to be, haha! :D

I shipped a 107 from N California in Nov 2003) to NW Montana and paid $650. This year the quote for same was $1,000!

Just Shipped a 67 Mustang to Louisianna (in November) and the buyer paid $1,600+ for enclosed transport (DAS). Door to door. But...they collected the car on an open trailer and delivered from their terminal to him on an open trailer, in the rain! His experience shows me that paying extra for enclosed shipping may not be a good value unless it's a very expensve car and you can nail down how it will be carried every foot of the way.
