Engine ID

HI

can anyone tell me what year my engine might be?

Diesel Five Cyl 617

SN# 617 951 12 021859

Thanks

Chuck

PS I am taking it out of a 220D and putting it in another 220D of same year - Easy right ?

Well so far the diferences are Throttle , Radiator/ oil cooler and core support The five cyl one is conciderably wider. for the larger Radiator/oil cooler. IT looks very well done- was an oilcooler an option in the 220? and main Suspension cross member ( seems the PO had to put a drop in the Five cyl one to fit the engine about 4 in x 12 in notch . I will either swap suspendions or get out the welder and plasma cutter.

Thanks

I don't know the year (sorry), but I can tell you it came from an S Class.

I would like to suggest posting this question in the Diesel forum also; as well as taking a few pics and posting them there. I bet more than just one or two would like to see how a 220D was transformed into a 300D. The pic would also help narrow down the year, in case no one can figure it out by your engine number that you provided.

switching out these two engines might not be as hard as you think.
the sub-frame; what the engine and tranny is bolted to, which also holds the
suspension and wheels, is attached to the body by 4 bolts.
all you really need to do to tranfer the engine is disconnect the four subframe
bolts, the tranny bracket, the center driveshaft bracket and the 3 bolts at
the rear flexplate, then wires and hoses and misc. then brace the subfame so it wont fall over. do this to both cars. then lift the car body off from the front bumper (engine hoist, tow-truck lift, backhoe etc.), move it out of the way and put the new body on in reverse.
if i am correct your tranny had a worn clutch. you can change it out quickly
with the body off.
