barnyard find....help identify seats

hello all, RickM recommended this bbs for the info i need.
i have aquired a front set of seats from an early MB.
i don't really have a use for these as i have a slight porsche and mid 80's turbo dodge addiction.
these seats were in storage in an attic since 1975 at the latest.......30 years...nice :)
they are covered in dust and such but are cleaning up VERY nicely, they should be totally "refurbished" by this weekend.....but things are looking very good.
does MB put part numbers on seats? and if so where will i find them?

here are a couple dirty pics.....just like i found them (after i got them home)

Hard to tell but they look mighty similar to the seats in my W108.

They also look alot like 114 seats. Any possibility they might be 107's?

RickM 03-02-2005 09:38 AM

They look similar to the 107 seats but without an armrest. There must be a way to identify.
Perhaps a business that sells reupholstery/seat covers might know. Any suggestions?

Seats

i'm pretty sure they are 107's.

set them up with the chrome facing out. on the driver's seat on it's right side push in and see if you can feel the nut that is used for the arm rest.

only question i would have about being a 107 did the sedans have this type in 70 to say 74. i don't know if the seat were interchangeable.

MikeTangas 03-02-2005 12:23 PM

I think a shot of the seat backs would help. I don't think the 107's had the cargo netting. Also, both seat shots are showing the inboard side of the seat. On my 108 the outside edge has a knob for adjusting the recline, I imagine they all did though.

"does MB put part numbers on seats? and if so where will i find them?"
Look underneath the seat bottom, between the horsehair pad and the spring. There should be a tag with some codes on it, like the color, the manufacturer's logo/name if outsourced by MB, and possibly a part number.

I just looked at my '85 SL (107 chassis) seats and while they look similar they are different. I don't have the double seam on the headrest and I have six ribs of perforated leather in the center as opposed to five.

Add: I just Emailed World Upholsery. Perhaps they'll chime in with their expertise.

I would say they are from the late '60's and early '70's W114/115 chassis, such as the 220D, and confirmed by the part number. They look identical, except for the headrest, to the seats used in the last W110 models (200, 200D), and I have seen seats like this used in the early 1970's cars.

OK the obvious, where is the car they came from? :o

Carlos Serrano 03-03-2005 05:50 PM

seats

they look just like my buddy's 1956 SL190 without the headrest

bell 03-03-2005 07:36 PM

no idea what they came out of or where that car may be.....the build tag says 10-dec-1968, so i'm guessing they're from a 69.
what are these seats worth?
providing they're in "perfect" shape, all the mechanicals are perfect including the seatback adjuster, still working on cleaning up the dust but so far perfect.
