Torque specifications for 300TD
 

Hi all.

I just received a Mercedes E-class 'Owner's Bible' by Bently Publishers. They clearly claim this to be among other things a maintenance and repair manual. They must have forgotten to publish the torque specifications for the cylinder head bolts. :mad:

Does anyone know where I can get these specifications online, as I need these to replace my cylinderhead gasket this weekend? :confused:

Hi Bjoern:

The following specs apply to 1985 and earlier 300TD 5 cylinder diesels.

There are two types of socket bolts and they do differ.

1. Hexagon Socket bolt.

1st step 70nm or 52 foot pounds
2nd step 90nm or 66 foot pounds
Wait ten minutes for the bolts to settle
3rd step 100nm or 74 foot pounds.


2. Twelve point socket bolt.

1st step 40nm or 30 foot pounds
2nd step 70nm or 52 foot pounds
Wait ten munutes to settle
3rd step rotate each bolt 90 degrees tighter
4th step rotate each bolt an additional 90 degrees tighter.

That's the information I have.

I guess should have mentioned that the car in question is a 1992 300D 2.5 Turbo. :o

This particiular model uses cylinder head bolts of 3 different lengths.

FYI, The year/model is always important for correct and timely replies.
I checked and I do not have information for your model.
Hopefully someone else can help.
Might try calling your local MB dealer/shop.
