Since most of the folks on this board are in the US, it will be tough for us to recommend a European fuel since our octane ratings over here are measured and reported using a different methodology than yours (which results in a number about 4 less for a fuel with equivalent detonation resistance), and the 1.8L engine was not sold in the US market.
Most US market engines of the era except the early 2.3s with 8:1 compression ratio require a 91 octane fuel, which is roughly equivalent to your 95 octane, however, most will operate satisfactorily on lower octane, especially in cool weather. The later 2.3s have a CR of 9:1 and the six-cylinders are 9.2:1, and the early low compressions 2.3s only required a US 87 octane, which would be about 91 in Europe. Do you know the specified compression ratio of your engine? Does it have a catalyst? Also, does it have a rotary knob on the left side inner fender apron next to the EZL igntion module? Duke |
