190e 2.6 Won't Upshift

Hello everyone,

1989 190E 2.6 just under 100K miles will not upshift from second to third gear. If I put the car into first, it will shift fine into second but not any higher. The RPMs will go to 4-5K and still no upshift from second to third. However, if I lift off the throttle COMPLETELY it will upshift. Then if I resume giving it throttle it will go back into second immediately. Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you adjusted the Bowden cable recently?

transmission

i have seen a similar problem caused by the transmission filter element coming loose and getting sucked up in to the opening where the fluid enters the valvebody, when it does this the transmission will not upshift.

I tried adjusting the white plastic nut on that cable. I turned it clockwise, testdrove, then counterclockwise, testdrove again but had no results either way. What else should I be looking at? Thanks

My 85 2.3 190E does the same thing. Ive tried changing the vacuum modulater, transmission filter & fluid and it still does the same thing. I broke the adjusting nut on my throttle cable, so as soon as I install a new one and adjust it, ill see if that fixes anything. I doubt it.

Anyways, let me know if you fix it and how.

Thanks
