Front Cover
Hello,
I've been losing alittle oil. My Mech. said it was a bad "front cover". Where is this and is it easy to replace? Pomp |
Timing Chain cover, fairly easy to replace, must remove fan, belt, etc
|
To be exact, it's the upper timing cover that needs to removed to replace the upper timing cover seal, AKA, the U-shaped seal.
Here's a link that talks about it. It's near the bottom of the page: |
Is it possible to renew the front cover without removing the valve cover gasket...?
|
No, but that does not mean that you have to replace the valve cover gasket. I didn't replace mine when I did the upper timing cover seal. It was still in good shape. The valve cover gasket is not (and should not be) glued to the head. It floats on the surface.
If the valve cover gasket is brittle, then you should replace it. |
