Transmission fluid question!!!
hello there, last week i checked my cars(e320) transmission fluid, it was around 1kg less than the required level so i just simply add that much to the existing fluid.how much bad can that be, since i believe the added fluid will have different parameters(viscosity, etc...) since it is new than the old one(used).so to sum up the idea, can transmission fluid be added or it has to be totaly replaced?

It would be beneficial to know the year of your vehicle to give you the best answer. Depending on your transmission, there are different guidelines to follow regarding the proper level.

Yes, you can add the approved fluid if it is low. Make sure you check the fluid level properly before you add any. With the tranny at full operating temp, car running and in park.
Only way it can be low is if it is leaking or if not enough was added at the last change. Are there any leaks on the tranny? |
If you determine the fluid is indeed low, then it is okay to top off up to the full mark. Dexron III is specified for that transmission.
If the fluid has more than 30,000 miles on it, then I strongly recommend changing the fluid. |
