1999 C230 Key Replacement/Programming

I recently purchase a 1999 C230 Kompressor. The car only came with one of the smart keys and the flat key used for opening the doors. I would like to purchase a replacement smart key and then have it programmed to work in my car. does anyone know how to go about this? I see there are keys on E-bay, but I am worried about how to get it programmed. The dealer is looking for like $180 for a replacement smart key and I think that is outrageous. Thank you for your assistance.

you do realize when the car is new they gave you two smart keys and the valet key.

you can also save some money by not getting the metal key insert in the smart key

Ethan,
I just purchased the car from someone and it only came with the one smart key. I want to get another one.

let me correct and say that when I purchased my 1998 C - class new, at that time it came with two smart keys and one valet. I am not sure about 1999.

I know for our 2002 C it came with just two smart keys and no valet.

I just ordered a new smart key minus the metal key insert and it was a bit over $130

I'm afraid you'll have to bite the bullet on this one.
DO NOT purchase a key from ebay!
Maybe check with the previous owner to see if he has a correct spare key laying around. ;)

Bummer, I figured in todays day and age someone would have figured it out by now. I appreciate the replies.

The good part about it.............it is NOT easy to steal an M-B, even with a ( ebay ) key. ;)

I bought my smart key from a nearby dealer, R&H Motorcars. Maryland
When you get a new Smartkey it takes a few days plus they require identification if the dealer is not familiar with you.
