sudden drop in fuel economy

So, the plugs and resistor tips were replaced 3 tanks ago, and I got better performance and about the same mileage until this tank, whereby I have run to the last line on the gauge 40 miles sooner than normal, and the car feels like a slug. Any ideas? Air filter is clean, tire pressure is fine.

97 C 230, 81k.

Well, not the same as the previous 2 tanks, but from one of 3 places I use. I used to drive diesels, so I can definitely tell when I get bad diesel, but gas is another story. I would think it would run rough too? Strange. Then again, my car does have a jeckyll and hyde personality sometimes.

My best guess would be to have the fuel filter changed.

Only seems to run rich at cold-start, which I believe is normal. But yes, in the morning, I can't breathe around it!

If it were my car I would test the 02 sensor and the water temp sensor... If it is out of range, thinking its colder than it is, it can over enrich all the time.

But Im not really familiar with your cars fuel injection & emmission systems...(97 C230 right)... I don't even know if you have a water temp sensor.

Try the snif test after it has fully warmed up though to just get a rough idea if it seems to be burning too much fuel.
Wish I had more to offer.
Good luck.
