Have owned '82 240D, '92 190E 2.3, and '98 C230 recently traded on new C240. All have been excellent, reliable cars -- probably some of the most reliable cars ever built by Mercedes. Collectively over 25 years of driving these cars, I can count the problems I've had on one hand, and they were all minor. However, when I needed a good used car 4 years ago, I bought another '92 190E 2.3 because my wife never forgave me for trading our previous 190. The 190s are built like a tank, and if properly cared for, they will outlast most any car. We're still driving it every day.

most dependable body and engine

No contest on dependability

Most dependable and best build body type is W124
Most dependable engine in range is either Diesel 300 or V8 420 or 500 depending if you need the power or are concerned about fuel econ.

If you get the latest model M606 E300D i doubt if you will notice any more noise inside the car than a gas model, especially at speed - its a peach.

Most Dependable MB to Replace 190E

I too live in Colorado (north of Denver) and I have a C230 Kompressor Sport. We have owned iot for three and 1/2 years purchasing it with 6K and it now has 51K. We had taken it in for service several times to get the 1-2 shift adjusted (too hard) and the dealer replaced several parts, internal and external including the front flexdisk. Never did really resolve the shift problem. We had a poor running issue when cold, replaced the FI controls, then a rattle when not started for several days, dealer replaced the Kompressor and Clutch. I have replaced the front rotors and pads, and three sets of tires. Fun to dirve quotant is very high. MPG = 27 to 33. I would but another one if I could find a clean one that I could afford.

Any more Kompressor comments?

Sounds like just the ticket for high altitude operations. What are the weak points? What kind of boost do they produce? Intercooled? (Aftercooled for you Cummins guys!!) Thanks Scott
