Chiming from the Dash

I have a 96 SL320 and when I turn a corner that has an angle, like our drive way the car starts chiming very loudly from the dash. I can find no reference in the owners manual about this, what does this mean? Is there a threshold sensor that I am kicking off? The rollbar popped up once when I went around a corner really fast, but no chime, maybe it has to do with speed? I am stumped. Any ideas?

Sounds as though the body is twisting slightly and allowing a door open switch to go off. I would check the door switch by taping it in and then try the driveway again. Check one door at a time.

I thought that as well, the door light would come on too though wouldn't it? Is there another switch in the latch?

Not sure about switch on your vehicle. Does it happen with your lights on? Have you done any repair to the steering column such as turn signal plate or cruise control plate? Could be a misrouted wire loom rubbing against something.

Someone else may have more specific information, but I believe the "chime" will sound if a seat back is unlatched or if the top is not fully latched in the open or closed position. I think in both of these cases the chime doesn't sound unless the car is moving. I recall this happening when I moved my car a little while operaing the top.

If you stop while the car is 'twisted' does the chime stop and then resume as the car starts moving again? This would be a clue...

Just thought of another possibility. Could be a parking brake cable adjusted to tight or not releasing all the way. With frame twist it may set off chime.
