Problem with Harmonic Balancer
Hi all
I have an 1985 , 190E, 2.3 Gas Mercedes. The Crankshaft doesn't spin the pully because the rubber molding on the back of it is cracked. I have been trying to find that part for 2 weeks with no luck so far. I found a pully and a harmonic balancer for that year and model but it does not look the same as it has no rubber on the back of the pully. Does any one know if they are interchangable? Any ideas will be appreciated, thanks. |
You should try a dealer parts department.

This is actually a good part to purchase new. The reason is that just about any one you find that old is most likely to have slipped just a few unnoticable degrees. I'm not sure if you engin's timing is set off this part but it's balance certainly is.

Thanks for the ideas, I called the dealer and the price he gave me was $741. so I thought I try something else for now.
Just one other thing I would like to share with you, I owned this car for 17 years, I have 301K miles on it.The only thing I had to change on it is the voltage regulator some years ago (that is other than brakes, muffler and the normal maintenance things), does any one have similar experience ? should I expect the car to fall apart soon though it does not appear to have any problems other than the HB at this time. |
Mine went bad at 280,000 miles.............84 300DT.....had it repaired and all is well.................

The M102.985 has had 3 different balancers! THEY are interchangeable.
