4.5 engine differences?
Are there any real engine differences between say a 117.985 and 117.986? Is it just small thinks like oil pan and exhaust manifold?
Is the 117.982 and 117.983 the same basic engine as well? Thanks Eric |
I'm not sure -- there have been MANY changes to these engines over the years, and I'm not conversant with the later ones.
I'm guessing minor, but cannot say for sure. Remember, this engine started life as a cast iron block D-Jet engine, and ended up with an aluminum block and KE-Jet, possibly LH-Jet! Peter |
Aside from the fuel injection and intake manifold, wouldn't the block and heads still be the same? I assume the heads are the same with the D and K fuel injection?

Head are different between D and K Jet, there are some block differences (oil filter housing in particular), but I don't know which numbers have what, alas!
If you are contemplating a swap, I would advise staying with the same number engine unless you can look at both of them side by side. Definitely, the oil filter housing differences can get you! Peter |
