can you peel off with 300E?
Can 300E owners in this forum tell me if you can peel off with you car? im just looking to find out about throttle respond and acceleration lag. Im in process fixing my accel lag and I would apreciate info from other 300E owners since I never drove another 300E. Say my car feels fast at about 2.5k rpm. Any info would be helpful. And also what is youre gas milage? I have 1990 3.0L and I get ~13mpg. I think its too low. Im soaking my exhaust bolts with WD40 to loosen exhaust to see if I have clogged cat. I also looked at some thread about eaton supercharger. Did somebody installed one on 3.0L Thank you

u must be like`17? everyone knows these cars "peel out" excessively, that is why we all have had to detune them.
Its easy just put it in neutral, rev up to 3,540 rpm, no more, and drop it into drive... u will peel out alot, do it often so the computer is tricked and soon u will be peeling out without having to drop it to d from r.... power brake it, that helps.... trannies r good for this type of driving |
Has anyone noticed that this forum seems to have been invaded recently by a bunch of kids who seem intent on turning 124s and 201s into ricers?
These cars deserve a better fate than that! Can we make "mature adult status" a requirement for membership? Duke |
You have to deal with the sad situation of a 2nd gear start. The W124 transmission is designed to start in 2nd for comfort and fuel efficiency. The 300E will not "peel out" unless you get the $350 valve body upgrade. That will give you the 1st gear start and the ability to "peel out". Your powerband is in the 2500 to 4000 rpm range, so it is not a city racer, more suited for highway speeding ;) The Eaton supercharger is a mod in progress, and the guy that is doing it, has yet to complete his project.
Don't mind the sarcasm, thats just a way of telling you not to expect a "tire smoking" 300E. |
Im not trying to be a ricer in any kind. I just want an input from 300E owners to find out if my car should be like this or there is a problem with it. I assume when you get on the highway you will need some boost in power but not to be rear ended as I almost did because car didnt accelarated right. About supercharger was my thought since my car sort of slow off the start. MB is not a ricemobil with bunch of lights and loud exhaust. It nice classy automobile that should get you from point A to B in comfort. Thanks for info. And by the way about peel off with neutural drop at 3.5k rpm. Nice going man. Let me know when your transmission will give up :)

Can you please explain how 2nd gear start is fuel effecient. I thought that if itll be more efficient why wouldnt you start in 2nd with manual transmission but noone does. Maybe Mb has different gear ratio that makes it effecient. Idont know but Id like to know. Nice Benz by the way. thanks

Victor, I think that 13 MPG is way too low. You should be getting 25 on the freeway, and closer to 20 in the city. I think you should find a good indy in your area, and have him look at it. They can tell in a minute, whether your cat is plugged (using an infrared thermometer), without taking anything apart.

I have a 95 E320 and I get 18 mpg around town. Haven't taken it on a long drive yet to find out good highway mileage. 13 seems low.

Anyways, I believe it's because a lot of engine power is lost in first gear, do to something called physics. |
Revving the engine in neutral and slamming it into gear? I think that'd be way harder on an auto than if you did it with a manual, would it not?

I agree in that 13mpg is too low. |
How quick is the 300E when it is manually started in 1st gear with the shifter? Whats the torque rating?
|
While second-gear starts won't give you any street cred, the W124 has ample ability to evade highway hazards and merge and/or pass with ease.
If you are unable to do this with yours, it is sufferring from a performance issue...and 13 mpg is a clue that it is... |
Check plugs, wires, cap and rotor. As well as check to make sure your mixture is correct as well. 13MPG is way to low even for a person with a lead foot!

What he said! :) Your car has issues. My guess would be O2 sensor. But thats just a guess. |
