Radiator elbow fitting
The fitting that connects the hose from the expansion tank to the top of the radiator decided to fall apart on me, 100 miles away from civilization. Luckily, I had distilled water and duct tape, so I fixed it up and made it to Santa Cruz. Took Pacific Coast Highway back to South Orange County (450 miles or so?), only having to add water a few times. Now that I'm back, I ordered the part on fastlane, so I got a few days to wait.
But I need to know if it's safe to drive the vehicle without the end of the fitting in place. You see, when I removed it a few minutes ago for inspection, it fell apart in my hands. Stupid brittle plastic. Here is a picture: http://dano.pocketrubbish.com/images...%20fitting.jpg As far as I can tell, it serves as a pressure release line. Just want to make sure nothing really awful will happen without it. |
Ah...looks so familiar...I towed my car home when it happened to me and then replaced the fitting before I drove it. I'm scared to try my luck with car problems.
Take a look at the pics in my thread: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=104716&page=2&pp=15&highlight=explosion |
