m110 head replacement?
Greetings Forum Members,
I could you some experienced advice on the most cost effective course of action to correct the oil loss I'm experiencing with my daily driver 1985 280sl, 187,000 miles. I'm going though about 1 qt per 100 miles. The tail pipe soot is actually oily. I'm guessing that the oil is blowing by the rings and or valve seals. There is no obvious oil burning by the engine, for the most part the exhaust appears clean. Options I'm considering; 1. Have a valve job done on the existing head. 2. Swap out the existing head as a core for a rebuilt one avaliable fron Adsit or another suggested reputable supplier. 3. Just keep adding oil. Also is option #2 a DIY job? Everything works on the car and it's a nice driver although somewhat cosmeticly challenged; Could use new seat covers. Dash cracked. Typical North East fender and rocker rot, not major. With the top down and the sun shining all the aforementioned seem to dissapear. Thanks, Knarf |
If I were you I would do the intake valve seals. on the 110 I beleive they are replaceable without removing the head.
Get a 110 engine manual and there should be a set of instructions on how to do it. |
