AShtray in a 1999 MB C-280
I would like to know the procedure for taking out the ashtray compartment. The door will not shut because something has fallen behine it. Can anyone direct me in the right direction. As does anyone else have the problems with there gas gauge showing empty when it is full?

Can't answer your question the ashtray, but my 97 202 has had the gas gage issue since day one. The sender, and a bunch of other stuff was replaced in the beginning.
What's really odd, is if the fuel is really topped up, the gage goes to zero, then as miles are put on, the fuel level increases until its full. Takes about 30 miles to get it to read full again. What I've learned, when the fuel nozzle kicks off, just add enough gas to bring the sale to the next 25 cent increment. Then I never have the gas gage problem. |
Thanks
Thank you very much...

Ashtray removal Instructions
How to remove the ashtray in a 1999 Mercedes Benz C-280[/B]
Thanks to Brumos Motor Cars Mercedes in Jacksonville, fl for the instruction on getting my ashtray out. I had dropped some change in the back. 1. Take a small flat head screw driver and lift the black ring from around the gear shift. 2. Lift up on the front and take off the wood grain cover that is around your gear shift. You don’t even have to take the wiring harness off. Just set it on the seat. 3. There are 2 screws holding the ashtray in on each side. Be careful not to drop the screws like I did and I used wood screws to put it back. Make sure they are the same length as the other original ones) 4. Put back in the same order as you unassembled. * There are 2 back compartments between the radio and the gear shift. The big one you have to take 2 screws out of the top and small one you can just lift out. You will see what I mean, when you get there. Yahooooooooo Kevin... |
