Anyone with a 190e door panel repair?

All four door panels are bulging .... anyone successfully repaired this?

Hey Hassman, could it be that from years of pulling on the inside door handle, it slightly got bent outwards? See if you can bend it back, I know there are no hooks in that area where the bulge is, but, it might help.
Let us know how it goes. xp |
I never had that happen to me. That's probably the only thing that never had to be fixed on my W201 ;). I'm not sure what to say. Maybe you could put a nice chrome Mercedes badge over it like these BMW ///M seat badges:

i have the same problem with my 1989 190e2.6. Read somewhere in this forum that there was a bad batch of such interiors, relating to the quality of the adhesive used. This same problem is responsible for the vinyl coming loose at the top of the panel.

Yes I do think it is related to adhesive. All the door panels are doing this. I thought about drilling a small hole from the inside, spraying say a headliner adhesive all around, heating the entire area and then sucking out the air with a strong vacuum source .....

My drivers is doing that and the top is coming off as well. My passenger rear did it as well, I fixed that one by buying a used one off E-Bay. Have not been able to find a nice one for the drivers door though. It is caused by water damage from what I can see. Like a leaky door seal. I have yet to find a fix and it seems a newer door panel or better one is the only solution. Back when I got mine I used to see them for sale on E-Bay all the time. Now I do not!

I have the same problem on my '93. It's happening on all 4 doors, but the driver's door is the worst. I agree that it's probably due to bad adhesive, but it seems to be compounded by the vinyl shrinking and pulling. I bet that if my car had always been kept out of the sun (covered parking at work) that it wouldn't have this problem.
I doubt there is an adhesive on the planet that would hold mine -- the vinyl is too tight. Perhaps by heating/stretching it... but that could make it worse. Hard to tell. Let us know if you find a solution. Jeff Pierce |
