There are 2 great end of year deals in my Saturday Autos section of the paper.
A 1990 300e for 5900.00 (I dont have the mileage yet) and A 1994 C220 for 9995.00 (I'll be calling on mileage) I was wondering what if any trouble spots these may have. Or general opinions on either model. I am a bit of a driveway mechanic. Which model is going to be easier to work on? These are located in the Northeast (snowbelt). Thanks, Don |
Although you may have to do some work on it, my money would go on the 300e. I like the 124 chasis. I think the 6cyl engine is a better one than that of the c220.
Let us know how it goes. |
I just got off the phone,
The 300e does have the 3.0 engine and is not diesel, however it has 203,000 on the clock! The C220 has 105,000 but I think that is a 4 cy,inder. |
The 300E would need more work, but it would be a more enjoyable car (bigger, faster, smoother, better feel) - I love mine. There's a lot of information in the archives about this specific model to search for.
203k miles in 10 years? wow. anthony --- 1987 300E 198k |
I would opt for the 300E. I had a 190E with a 2.0 ltr, 4 cylinder petrol engine and althought it was a fine car, the engine was just not up to it. I recently bought a 300 CE, 124 chassis with the M103 engine and although it has 200.000 kms on the block, a service every 10000 kms with regular oil and filter changes has kept it in fine fettle. It drives and sounds just like a new car. Go for the 6 cylinder if you have the chance. I think anyway !
