is this easy or more trouble than its worth ?

On my E420 when I pull out the light switch to turn on fog lights the orange button lights up. On my 380SE, the orange button doesn't light up, evidently a burnt out bulb. Is this simply a matter of taking off the knob and repalcing a small bulb? Didn't want to try this until I checked with you guys who may have had the same problem. Thanks

I did a search but could not find anyathing about this specifically.

My 89-300ce's orange button doesn't light up either. I pulled the switch apart only to find there was no provision for a bulb. The bulb on mine only came with the rear fog light option. On mine I checked the left rear tail light and found no socket where the fog light bulb should have been.

Two things are required for the light to illuminate:

1. A good bulb.

2. A ground at switch terminal 31

The light illuminates at 2nd click, to warn of rear foglight on.

The bulb burned out on mine-- to access, just pull off the knob and you'll see the bulb sticking out of the end of the shaft. Dealer had to order a new one since they didn't stock it...

Sylvania has a very good reference chart on their website. As they bought the Osram company (OEM) they'll steer you straight. IIRC, it's a 2721.

I couldn't resist looking it up. Here's the website.
