Coil Spring Compressor

Does anyone have the proper tool for removal of the front springs on a 560sl? I know that some believe that you can use an Autozone tool or you don't even need a tool, but I'd rather play it safe. I'd like to rent it from someone since I only plan on doing my control arm bushings once and don't want to spend $600 on a tool.

TIA,

Steve

Will either of these tools from Harbor Freight do the job?

Sir Tool, I have this one and it works fine, $550

http://www.sirtools.com/mercedes.htm , scroll down to the M0070 tool

Klann tool, $650-800, They build the Mercedes tool.

http://www.klanntools.com/ , the KL 0021 tool

There is a new "knockoff" copy of the Klann tool, look on ebay for it. One of the former visitors of the forum has one and said it worked fine.

Any other compressor may lead to death and/or dismemberment.

In most MBs there isn't room to compress the springs by gripping the coils from outside. You need the less common spring tool that is comprised of two plates and a lead screw that pulls the plates together.

I think George Murphy also rents the correct compressor. He's in the STAR every month.

I found the type for the w210. It's the offset type made by Klann KL0013 (see URL above )or there's a knockoff by ROJOimparts on ebay. I bought one from them today and will let members know how it works.
