93 300se transmission cooler problem
I am told by my repair shop that the trans. cooler has to be replaced. the problem is that they tell me that the trans. cooler is located inside the radiator. therefore the radiator has to be replaced also, at a cost of 465.00 plus labor. I want to confirm if the trans. cooler unit is really located inside the radiator, please advise

Yes, normally the trans fluid cooler is located in the radiator. Some people just add a fluid cooler to the front of the radiator and tie into that if the radiator is still good. Is your car leaking tranny fluid? Check on Fastlane for the radiator cost and see if you can get it cheaper. It is not that hard to replace if you can turn a wrench you can do it yourself. I have never heard of one going bad, is it clogged?

If the transmission cooler is bad that means the transmission is contaminated with coolant / water. That is a cocktail for a transmission failure; you can use a good stand a lone transmission cooler, the added benefit is the engine will run cooler.
The transmission has to be flushed as will as the radiator. |
G1000-62704 Radiator Behr IN STOCK $276.33
Look what I found on Fastlane. I would replace it asap, if coolant is mixing with your trans fluid you will probably be replacing that soon. Have the shop flush the trans fluid and coolant as well. You can change it yourself it is pretty simple. |
"C32" has it right! any good external trans cooler will get the job done for less than $100. A shop that sells TOWING equiptment can fix you up!
