Problem starting 300ce, sparkplugs get flooded
 My car is a 1990 300ce. It sat in the garage for 6 days, when I tried to start it, it will just cranks up but won't fire up. I changed the sparkplugs bec the old ones were black on the tip and full of carbon deposits and they were a little wet (gas) and I also changed the wires. It then started on one try but it started emitting black clouds of smoke, then it stalled after 5 minutes. I checked the sparkplugs again and they are already full of carbon deposits and wet again. Cleaned them up and let it air out for about half and hour, then placed them back and it fired up again in one try. It seems like they get flooded then the car stalls....and I don't even press on the accelerator pedal. I tried runnung it and the black smoke turned to white but it goes back to black when it idles. It ran for about 5 minutes again and it stalled. I really don't know much about MBs so if anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it.

From the sound of things you are running VERY rich.. Most likely your EHA is acting up...Could be KE control, but unlikely. When was the O2 sensor changed last? Might be a faulty temp sensor, but I yet to see one cause a car to run that rich.
Black to white? Well, perhaps you started to burn off some of the moisture in the exhaust. If you're not much for working on your car I suggest you take it to someone who is familiar w/ the car..You could start throwing parts at this problem very easily. Jonathan |
