1990 300ce

I am looking at a 1990 300ce to buy. This one has 155K miles - looks good and has some service records. Asking $6000. Is there anything in particular to look for other than timing chain replacement and oil usage?

I just bought a 1989 300ce 122k miles, near mint..... paid 4800... the guy I bought it from paid 4300 wholesale... to give you an idea of true cost/worth

the big thing will be service records... you need to have them to talk to a mechanic who has taken care of it.

usual issues: head gasket
evaporator

btw--- I love the car..... much different than a 300e

good car

Hi

I've had my 91 300CE for 1.5 years. M103 engine, bought it at 148000 miles, now have 165,000.

I did a lot of little jobs like, flex joints, steering linkages, rear suspension bushings and arms, front ball joints, and biggest was a new head gasket. I've also changed all the oils and fluids, and generally keep it well serviced and tuned.

Other troubles were vacuum leaks causing bad tranny changes, old alarm system wiring faults causing no start, and fuel tank sender trouble. I really like the car though, and my advice is if the body/chassis is good, then the mechanical parts are a matter of money and time. Can you get a look under the car with someone before you buy? Check out the chassis, then you will know if you have a good foundation of a car.

However, this is my opinion as I'm happy to do lots of mechanical jobs on my car. Paying a mechanic is another matter!

Hope this helps

The US version 300CE had a M104 engine & they had very few problems! Of course previous service is the key to any used car.

The M104 engine has never been an oil burner!

thanks! I have owned a 1989 300se and a 1991 300 se......both of those engines seemed to eat about one quart of oil every 1,000 miles- which I was told is within specs.

I brought a 92 300CE last year for $6K with 98K miles (black/tan). It comes with full record and new 17x8 (2000 E430) rims and tires.

It has more power than my 91-300E (M103) engine, but not as powerful as my 95 S320 (M104).
