Transmission fluid level
 

I checked the fluid level on my '88 420sel and there are two marks on the dipstick. Am I correct in assuming the top is for warm transmission and bottom hash is for checking the level with cold trans fluid?
With my car warm the level is a bit below the bottom mark - so I want to add a bit of fluid. Can somebody tell me what the volume difference is between the bottom and top marks?

You are correct. The transmission has to be fully warmed, engine running and car in park when checking on the warm line. Make sure the transmission itself is completely warmed before you add fluid to make sure you don't overfill.
