Remove and Replace 124 Grille
Hello,
I need instructions on how to remove the grille on my 89 300E. I found an aftermarket replacement grille on Ebay and I wonder if they are any good? Anyone had any experience in replacing your grill? thanks |
Replace Grill
Easy.
I presume you mean change the plastic insert. First remove the entire chrome surround via the removal of the perimeter retaining bolts. These can located from inside with the hood up using your fingers and undone using a socket (10mm, I think) extension. With the chrome surround removed the clips can be released and the plastic insert removed. |
Easy DIY.
Did this a couple of years ago when my original grille took a chip from an errant rock. Just discovered another chunk removed from my replacement grille at about the same place! Guess I'm doing this job again soon! |
I lost a small piece out of my grill insert and I couldn't figure out how it happened. I can't believe how much damage I have had to my car from rock chips .
My new windshield got a chip, my grill insert got a chip, paint on the hood a couple of chips.....all from the construction on the road where the workers left so many rocks and gravel behind. Are all the grill inserts the same for 1985-1993? Any different qualities? |
