 overheating

Hi guys...just purcased a 300 4-matic wagon (93) off ebay a few weeks ago and just noticed the temp gauge around 120....and coolant was "boiling." Not being very knowledgeable about this wonder if anyone has a suggestion.....stuck about fifty miles from home in a library while the car cools off. Thanks...Jim

 Thermostat sticking ? :o
	 |

 Hi Jim:
A clogged radiator can also be a problem too. I had a problem like yours when I purchased my first Mercedes. The previous owner took out the thermostat and that made it overheat. You can try rolling down all your windows and turn up the heater full blast and try to get home that way. Aloha, Eric |

 thermostat

you never want to remove the thermostat, most on them on mercedes have a dual function, if you remove it coolant will not be properly diverted, not only does the top part of a thermostat open but when the top is open the bottom closes off (see picture) with it removed coolant will not enter the radiator as it should, most of it will circulate from the block to the cylinder head, not really making it to the radiator to cool properly.
