glow plugs
 

i read something somewhere about new glow plugs for older model diesels, that make them start better, and run like newer model diesels... any feelings about these? anyone using them in cold states. Lemme know what yall think.

An 85 already has the newer kind.

I think you are speaking of the upgraded relay. It keeps the plugs glowing for about a minute after start to smooth out the cold idle.

That would be what I heard about. Any ideas on price? and does it work (from your knowledge)?

It's possible to do a simple wiring change to enable the afterglow feature on an existing relay. Do a search on the words: "purple wire".

I would think this would shorten the glow plug life a bit though. Maybe you would only want this during the winter months.
