How does one disable the smog pump ?

I thought that I was computer literate but am a bit confused with the set-up of this board - I can't seem to easily find my posts and once I do in a round about way they seem to be buried deep in line - sorry if I make mistakes and dublicate posts etc. Anyways here goes a question again that I had posted earlier.---------------------------
Would the car run better and get better fuel economy without the smog pump? To disable and test without removing and pluging hoses--- can the elect. connection just under the washer fluid reservoir be disconected?
