ANY Play in Water Pump Bearing Acceptable?

I put in an ISI (Italian) water pump in my 560SL. The pump was new. I know there have been comments about off-brand pumps but the casting and impeller looked virtually the same as the MB. I notice that there is a small amount of bearing play (NOT enough to see, just barely enough to feel). The belts have been tensioned properly via the "push" rule and verified with a Krikit tool. Do you think that ANY play is OK? Or should I just keep an eye on it? If it is bad, will it go quickly or slowly?
