1998 E 320: Two mirrors broke. Help with fix......?
Hi all,
In here from the SL forum. Friend has a 1998 E320. The rear view mirror housing broke. It's made up of two plastic pieces, front and back. Anyone know if just the front (cream color) is available. Next choice would be the whole housing. I hope he doesn't have to get the whole assembly. Also, the driver's side view mirror spring has come detached. In order to investigate I need to remove the mirror glass (or housing). Can someone advise on how to remove? Thanks! Rick |
Rick,
I think the exterior mirror just comes apart, I know on the 129(SL) pre-1999, you use a plastic wedge and just go down the ridge in the middle and it comes apart. You will then be albe to re-attach the springs that hold it to the car. The interior mirror is very expensive, I have repaired both mine in my S and SL, you just have to remove the mirror, I actually used hot glue to put the one back together on my S. I don't knwo how much they are for the E, but the S they cost over $400, so I figured out a way to fix it. Good luck! Brian |
Brian, Thanks for the reply. Run the wedge in the middle of what? Not sure wat you mean. I just want to remove the mirror glass. Does the glass just pop off it's base or is secured some other way.
Also, any leads on just the housing part #s? The catches that secure the spring clip have snapped. |
I have posted a video here for dis-assembly of the exterior mirror. This is on a 129, I don't have one for the E class, but may be similiar. The interior mirror if the mount for the retaining spring has broken you will have to get a new mirror. I would reccomend Ebay, they are expensive. Good luck!
