W140 shocks euro vs. us spec

Hi.
Is there any diffrence between the shocks installed on the w140 in the US and Europe.
I'm asking this since at DiscountAutoParts.com they have shocks for the w140 but aren't sure if they will fit my car which is a euro spec and it has the regular shocks.
By the way I think they have some good prices on monroe shocks, here's the link:

Never heard of a different sped. I think if you check Koni or Bilstein's web site you'll only find one application number worldwide.

Its a 1995 S350.
If the S500's riding is better than the ride of the S350 then I would get shocks made for the S500.
But as far as I checked the part numbers were the same for all the W140 models.

Hatterasguy 05-18-2005 10:43 PM

S500 used a different rear suspension.

Take a look:

Do you have ADS?

You just can't swap around shocks you need to find the right one for your car.

Don't put anything on it other than Bilsteins. The HD's ride a little firmer than the stock version. I put the HD's on my '95 S350. They carry a lifetime warranty. Not sure it the stock shocks do or not. If stock carries a lifetime warranty, I would go with them in retrospec.

My w140 shocks are regular.
I assume that the bilsteins are probably the best choice for my car, but since I live in europe and I need stuff to be shipped to an APO address then I have to go with sellers that will ship to APO addresses.

Speaking of that discountautoparts.com have these monroe shocks:

MONROE SHOCKS/STRUTS 39101 SENSA-TRAC MONOTUBE SHOCK ABSORBER
Note: front;(w140 chassis) sedan;exc. w/rear axle level control or w/ads (adaptive damping system); pcq
$ 61.96

MONROE SHOCKS/STRUTS S5054 SENSA-TRAC EURO SHOCK ABSORBER
Note: front;(w140 chassis) sedan;exc. w/rear axle level control or w/ads (adaptive damping system);sensa-trac pair (left & right);this pair pack unit has been discontinued and is being replaced by single sensa-trac unit.; pcq 1

$108.30

and they have simmilar ones for the rear that cost $63 and $111.

Now my question is since the seller states that these are for the S350 and my car has regular shocks are any of the shocks above the right ones for my car?

Hatterasguy 05-19-2005 10:10 AM

Those shocks are junk, you would be better off spending the extra money to have a set of Bilstein's shipped to you or get a set from the dealer.

Their is no way for us to know what you have as Inted said W140's used many different suspension set ups. You should talk to a MB dealer, with your vin they should be able to find what you have.

ADS is probably more then just shocks to addapt ADS you would probably need a few computers inside the car and then have to figure out how to intergrate everything so it works.

They don't sell Bilsteins in Macedonia?

rekatt 05-19-2005 03:03 PM

Thanks guys.
Like 3 months ago I tried to get a headlights lens for my w140 from FastLane but Phil told me that they dont ship to APO.
If I could get my hands on those Bilsteins I would get them right away.
I dont really know anything at all for shocks/suspension and that is the reason I used the word "regular".
Now I dont know what kind of suspension my car has but I assume its the basic one, whatever they had on the S350 in 1995.

If anyone know any store that will ship bisteins to APO please tell me.
Just in case I will email Phil again.

Thanks

Macedonia is situated in south-eastern europe, just above Greece.
Well as far as bilstein, there is no official bilstein dealer over here.
As far as the gas you have Super 98 octane that runs about $4.3 for ONE gallon. The unleaded 95 octane goes for $4.
Now how'bout that?

rekatt 05-19-2005 05:18 PM

Regarding the parts outlet there is an official MB dealer that sells all the parts too, but what they have is Sachs and I wanted to get the bilstein.

oldsouth 05-19-2005 11:49 PM

The dealer should be about to get Bilsteins. That is what came on my '95 S350 and I suspect that is what came on yours. Why are you changing them? Are they leaking oil? That is about the only thing that happens to Bilsteins. I have never seen any wear out like regular shocks. They are a very high pressure design.

oldsouth 05-19-2005 11:50 PM

PS - How much is diesel??

rekatt 05-20-2005 09:04 AM

Hello there Oldsouth.
How's your S350?

Regarding my shocks that I have on my car all four of them are in a bad shape, I can tell that from going over bumps and holes on the road.
The rear shocks are leaking oil, while the front ones have no visible problems but you can still tell they are almost out from the ride of the car.

By the way diesel is $3.6 a gallon.

oldsouth 05-20-2005 10:38 AM

My S350 is doing fine. No problems lately. Just turned 285,000 miles.
