1986 300E riding too low
 

My 86 300E is riding too low and on my steep driveway it scrapes and YIKES I looked under and it's the cat converter that is scraping, the ride is solid and shocks working well, I don't want to change the ride, I am using 205/60/15 tires, any suggestions on how I can raise the rear end easily an inch or two ? It does not have the hydraulic suspension just the standard springs and shocks. 233K miles and solid as a rock !

Had the car been lowered with aftermarket springs?

Too low is a rare complaint here.... usually too high, etc. :D

Also, if the cat is dragging could something be mis-aligned, bent or a rubber hanger bad?

The simplest thing I can think of is to check the rubber spacers at the top of the springs by counting the "bumps" on their outer edge. There are several thicknesses available and the difference is amplified by nearly 2 because of suspension geometry.

In my opinion its your springs. They are tired and thats why they are sagging.


We had a 190E which looked lowered, but it had stock suspension. Springs were the problem. BTW, the car had wicked road handling, very good in corners :) with the sagging springs.
