Flushing cooling system, recommended products.

Hello, I wanted to ask a couple of questions about flushing my cooling system. First off, what kind of products should I use to remove all the deposits and other fun stuff out of my cooling system. Second, where is the drain plug on the block. Last but not least, would it be ok to use that long life coolant in my car, I think its called Dexcool or something along those lines and its orange in color. Thanks for your help in advance.

I just flushing the system on my 1982 300D-Turbo and I must say it wasn't fun. Wasn't hard or too easy. The drain plug is located on the right side of the engine below the manifolds and in front of the starter.This procedure is according to the factory manual for Mercedes;
Drain coolant
Remove thermostat
Fill system with a 5 per cent mild degreaser solution
Run engine at 80 degrees for five min.
Stop engine and let cool. Drain the degreasing solution and flush two times with clear water.
Fill system with 10 percent solution of citric acid and water.
Run engine at operating temp for ten min.
Drain acid solution and rinse three times allowing engine to run five min. on each flushing.

Use anti freeze to your choosing.

Forgot to tell you the cost of materials to flush the cooling system.
Degreaser $11.00
Citric acid(lemon acid) $17.00
Citric acid can be bought at your local Super Market. Look in the home canning section.
When I flushed my 300D, I didn't time myself but I would guess it took maybe three hours. Most of the time was spent just waiting for the chemicals to work. The hardest part was removing and replacing the drain plug. Have Fun.
