Anyone know if a radar detector will work behind the infrared reflecting glass in the new s series? If the glass is coated the signals may be attenuated and the receiver will not work. Thanks |

M-B recently issued an S.I. regarding this problem. W220 front windshields with I.R. coatings have a couple of areas that are coating-free; the S.I. details the exact position of the uncoated areas. Check with your dealer for additional information.

I have a C-class with an additional after-market 30% darkening, infrared reflecting (blue) coating and a radar detector as well. Isn't it easier to buy yourself a radar detector with separate antenna which is to be mounted behind the grill or bumper? This works fine with me... greetingz,

| There is a small section of non-fimled glass where a radar detector will function. If you look at the windshield from inside the car with bright sunlight, about 2.5" up from the dash a little right of center, you should see the spot where to mount it. MB did send out a bulletin about that but I can't recall from memory exactly where the spot is. I'll check for you to be certain though!
