I know this subject has been posted many times before, but I'd like to hear from MB techs which brands of fluids are the correct/best to use in my '95 C280 transmission (722.424) and power steering. Also, which coolant is correct. Thanks.

Dextron 2 or 3 is fine for 1995 car. Always use fluid designed for your p/s unit, MBUSA sells a qt. for $10. Rather high but so are the cars & replacements. Should be a list of approved fluids that comes with car, or dealer can get you a new list for under a buck!

MB Doc how
many qts/liters of p/s fluid will I need to pick up to replace it in my '95 E320? Am planning on trying to do it this week. Will be replacing the filter at the same time.
thanks, Jim '95 E320 '97 Honda CRV |
One(1) qt./liter will do for fluid + filter change.

I have a question regarding fluids. Ok Im pretty sure that Dexron 3 and SJ rated oil wasnt available back in 1986. So lets say you put Dexron 3 in a transmission that was designed for Dexron 2 and you put SJ oil in an engine that was designed for the highest rated oil at the time (1986). Would the newer more advanced fluids be better for the car or do they just make a negligible difference. Thanks

I don't think you will find any oil that has a rating less than "SJ". SJ supercedes all others before it, such as "SH, SG, etc. Likewise, there will be a "SK" rating coming out later this year, which of course will supercede the current "SJ" rating.

Pezzy,
To answer your question, there will probably be a negligible improvement in using the more advanced fluids. Nothing noticeable but you should feel good that you have changed it. Bill |
