C230K what oil viscosity?

What oil viscosity is recommended for a 2000 C230K in the Los Angeles climate? The owner's manual suggests contacting the dealer, which I don't want to do. If I know the dealer like I know the dealer, they will just give me a BS story to get rid of me.

For the last oil change I used Mobil 1 0W40.

I agree with 5W-40 synthetic.
